One of our common values was once our desire to protect the innocence of children. We wanted to protect them against exposure to evil, shield them from harmful and self-destructive behaviors, and guard them against those who would abuse them. It’s the most minimal function of a society that calls itself civilized. Of course, we don’t use that term anymore. To call ourselves civilized is to imply that some cultures are not. It is to exercise a judgment, perhaps the greatest sin of this relativist age.
Today our young lack identity, based on what it is to be a human being, as opposed to inert pieces on a chess board. Unmoored from traditional literature and culture, children are adrift upon a sea of 'choice', without the knowledge or the skills of self-management, to navigate such treacherous terrain.
This last winter, I saw adults wearing pajamas, in public, in two different states. Not just any pajamas, but the one piece kind, with the integral slippers.
I read this just after learning that a relative’s young teenaged daughter has died of self strangulation as a result of a Tic Toc challenge. Kids are being conditioned to record themselves harming themselves for the entertainment of others, and the social credit it earns them - they’re dying for “likes” and a substantial portion of the internet is cheering them on. As a parent, I can only hope that the examples I put in front my child to emulate are more compelling - that the hero stories I share are more inspiring - but honestly it’s terrifying.
I had my idols in my younger days. My Dad and Neil Armstrong. It wasn’t until I had been in the Army did I realized how much Christ was a Real Hero. Now as a Christian I can only pray for these lost souls….. Plus, I thank G_d I am not among her kind. Interesting article.
Hello Sarah. Your article is interestingbecause I have seen instances of so-called performance art. It's creators need some way to distinguish in from stage drama, so they call it a ritual. It is therefore a particular kind of religion, one that does perform types of human sacrifice. We can call it this because it often does something to do the human body, usually something that will shock viewers. I have heard about a man who put several of his bodily fluids into shot glasses then consumed them in front of an audience. There are even worse examples. One German man would cut off parts of his own body as a performance for an audience. Thankfully he was arrested and imprisoned. These performers are just insane, but why does the audience want to watch them?
You certainly hit on all of our Red Lights that we are hitting on our race to the bottom of deviant behavior. This is another race that we are going to win because of our failure to change direction of our culture. We still have to mount the courage to shine like a beacon of light in a world growing darker because of failure to set the record straight. You showed all of the values that are going in the wrong direction. God help us!! Thanks Sarah for reflecting how we need to need to face the challenges of a sick society!!

Hi Sarah! Once again you have got your finger directly on the pulse of normal!
Unfortunately this has become the "new normal"!!
God, please no. They “created” an industry under the guise of “helping the children “….
