"We only have so much time to give, only so much attention, and so much emotional energy. Therefore, we must be selective about what we dedicate ourselves to." Isn't that the truth.

If you happen to live in a reasonable place where you can get to know your neighbors, that is what you should do, however some (me) live in a place where that is the last thing one should do, not all towns are the same, break-ins happen here regularly, confrontations with criminals are regular, and though the usual recommendation is to get the hell out, (which is true, I should) jobs, and other personal things can keep one in hostile territory. I live in hostile territory, and the adrenaline is 24/7. Just today, trespassers, and break-ins occurred on this property... it will likely be happening again tonight. It is certainly because there is no community ...as in... I don't live in one that is life's problem... for everyone else, be very grateful if you can actually go for a walk down the street... or call the police and have them come. One day, when I leave this place it will be like a veteran coming home from a war. I almost died last year (attacked by illegal alien) and this kind of thing isn't going to end here any time soon... the crisis is right outside my door 24/7... One day I hope to live in a place where I forget I even own a gun....

Tragic. Is this in the US? I was thinking NYC but since you own a gun it must not be.
