Thank you for this, Miss Cain. I think we have become de-sensitized to the overall tragedy of irreverent Masses because of how widespread they are these days. When one take time to think about it more in depth, however, one realizes that the irreverence is not just something that makes you uncomfortable while you are at Mass, but something evil at its root.

(May I take this opportunity to thank you for having a Substack? I always looked forward to reading your articles at Crisis Magazine, so it was a great delight to me to discover you run a Substack where you write quite frequently. Thank you!)

Thank you for the thoughtful commentary. I couldn't agree more, people become apathetic to what they perceive as "normal". Also, I'm glad you found the Substack. Welcome!

To be fair I am forced to attend a Church largely consisting of Gray heads in The Villages Florida, as I live near there. But the masses are authentically Catholic and reverent. No one-handed, irreverent Christ holding and with a 24-7 Eucharistic adoration chapel I thank God (and the Parishioners) for quite often. The Orlando diocese. So, Sarah, I encourage you not to pre-judge a Church filled with grayheads. The fallen liturgies are due to the errors of the moderns of past generations but that virus did not affect all and as you know correction has and is taking place, which we must be very careful does not get spun by infiltrators. I encourage all to be genuine Christian Catholic.

I agree, age is not necessarily an indication of desire for reverence. I know of a parish that was fading, until their priest introduced the traditional Latin Mass. Within a decade, they grew exponentially, attracting a lot of young families who would drive from even an hour away because they wanted to participate in what felt like a more authentic celebration. But it wasn’t just the youth; there were also a lot of older parishioners who loved returning to the Mass they’d grown up with in the days when the nuns still ran the classrooms and gave them eraser chalk-prints on their backsides when they got out of line. Unfortunately, their vibrance caught the attention of the local bishop, who insisted they return to the novus ordo, Many parishioners protested passionately, petitions were signed, they were featured in the news, but in the end the parish was dissolved and the priest defending the TLM was forced into retirement. The young people dispersed elsewhere; it was the grey heads that needed their community to continue, so they went underground and now they have this speakeasy-style secret traditional Mass made up of stubborn old Catholics, which I think is pretty badass. All that to say, sincere believers all ages crave depth of meaning and connection with the past through tradition. This is obvious in the popularity of the TLM and more reverent forms of worship. Really makes one wonder why their bishop was so keen on shutting them down.

I would love to set up a lay organization to investigate and get to the bottom of these abominable injustices - one with an enforcement arm that operated wise as serpents guileless as doves. That would change our American Catholic Church big time.

They're following Pope Francis' orders. The TLM apparently offends His Holiness more than serial sex offenders like McCarrick and Msgr. Burrill (aka Msgr. Grindr). It certainly offends Satan more than the Novus Ordo.

Thanks again.

As a fellow convert, I have found little common ground with the Church of Nice faction. As you observed, they're nice to everyone except God Himself.

Return to the Traditional Catholic Faith and Traditional Liturgy. The Catholic Faith is the True Faith and anything associated with Jorge Bergoglio aka Pope Francis and the Vatican 2 Religion is not Catholic. Bergoglio is a heretic, Bergoglio is a Servant of Satan, the purpose of Vatican 2 was to “create many options and diverse experiences and diverse beliefs” while destroying the One True Universal Catholic Faith.

The 'church' is no less vulnerable to such Apostasy.

Yet, yet... Christ himself struck hard at the legalism of the Pharisee, which as a fundamental Christian, see the Catholic Church just as guilty of missing what God wants - to having a loving personal relationship with Him, yet it is a very clear Commandment, the first and foremost: "I AM the LORD your God..", that is clear what the expectations is. Respect our Father, honor our Father, love our Father, Always put Him first, and we will see never ending grace.

Seen it, done it, been there--minus the veil... different place, different church, different time. Even up close. It can even be worse than this. At least he didn't break out an electric guitar or a robot. I'll respond more in depth this weekend, but, yeah, some serious problems out there that go deeper than a local priest who has ceased caring... great article.

Just one more reason why I left the R.C. Church. You should check out Bear Independent. He Runs Refuge Medical, they sell all types of first aid supplies. He runs a Shelter for Trafficked Children. He is also an ordained Pastor. He is very traditional, yet I believe modern Christians could listen and get the message of God through his Services. He bridges Judaism and Christian beliefs. He is incredibly talented. Please do your own research. He is on YouTube. Bear Independent.

Unless you left before 1969, you did not leave the Roman Catholic Church but the conciliar church, the Novus Ordo (New Order) church, the Modernist (synthesis of heresies) church as it was the result of the Second Vatican Council. In other words, it is not the true Roman Catholic Church.

Yet there is great news. The true Roman Catholic Church does exist and will always exist as Christ promised that even the gates of Hell cannot destroy it.

Do some research and you can find a true Roman Catholic Church with faithful priests who teach the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic faith.
