Excellent article Sarah. I have just finished a book called "To Raise The Fallen" which is a selection of war letters, prayers and spiritual writings from Fr. Willie Doyle, S.J. who was killed in battle in August 1917 during WWI. In his letters from the front he describes giving last rites and absolution to the many young men who were killed in the war. He didn't bother to ask their faith tradition, nor I'm sure did the dying men who weren't Catholic care that a priest was praying over them during their final moments on earth. It's tragic that we have lost our moral compass and we are more concerned about offending someone than we are for our own salvation, and denying these men who have dedicated their lives to their ministry from sharing God's message of mercy.
