All Books Are Welcome! Unless...
How a woke all-inclusive bookstore changed its tune in three days
The spectre of “the right” banning books has become something of a talking point over the past couple of years, spewed from the lips of Biden and many evening news anchors.
In response to the hysteria, RuPaul’s bookstore, Allstora, had big plans to defy all of the evil right-wingers who are in favor of banning books. RuPaul is an infamous drag queen and he opened an online bookstore that was “open to all stories,” hence the name. It didn’t last long. Despite launching less than two weeks ago, Allstora might better be called Somestora, after making public apologies about selling “harmful books”. Only three days after launch, the bookstore began banning books.
“We’ve already removed the titles that visitors have called to our attention, and you can continue to report any instances of hateful material on our site.”
What kind of books had to be removed, after meeting the malleable definition of “hateful material”? Those like Abigail Shrier’s, “Bad Therapy”, which posits that the modern inclination to dwell on one’s emotions rather than move forward in life is having a catastrophic effect on the young. It argues how a society that gives too much credence to psychology and its practitioners has resulted in the acceptability of things that former generations didn’t tolerate (like transvestites).
For daring to state such a hypothesis, the book is banned from the woke bookstore that opposed book banning from its founding, a mere two weeks ago.
Initially, they were selling such books, then adding a warning when people went to purchase them, stating that the profits from the book’s sale would be donated to marginalized communities. Yet that wasn’t enough to calm the mob—which can never really be appeased. The original statement of the store was decidedly libertarian:
“We cannot fight the ideologies of hate if we lack the ability to study, understand, and react to them. We do that by reading books.”
For this, they were accused of “rainbow capitalism”, which is a smear in the LGBT community for when corporations try to profit from appealing to them.
Books by Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Matt Walsh are now banned. Even books like, “Little Lives Matter” about the value and dignity of the unborn were removed. The desire to be open to the marketplace of ideas and promote critical reasoning was incompatible with their clientele.
So, for all of the screaming about “fascistic” conservatives banning books, because we are opposed to pornographic and degenerate content being shown to minors, those on the left aren’t really against the banning of books. They have far less tolerance, in fact. Their pleas for toleration and openness are merely disingenuous grasping for a false moral superiority. It’s a morality that claims that all discrimination is immoral, but none of us really believe that. To discriminate is to discern, that is, to distinguish a thing according to its qualities—to cast a judgment.
None of us could function without judgments, nor can society at large. Our actual disagreement comes down to what we find to be tolerable. Some of us find graphic sex novels aimed at minors to be intolerable. Others find discussions about children’s right to life to be intolerable. So when you hear the condemnations about “those who would ban books” levied at Christians and traditionalists, know that it’s a purely manipulative effort to claim an artificial high ground. We just disagree fundamentally on what decency is, for our understanding of morality itself is based on different foundations.
The modern left has embraced the Popper Paradox, which might be summarized as “tolerate everything except the intolerant” and they see the intolerant everywhere. Anybody with standards is intolerant of those without them. The natural product of Karl Popper’s wicked philosophy of openness to anything except intolerance would be a decadent, depraved society that perverts children and sullies anyone who tries to live apart from the filth. One can envision that simply by looking around.
The woke movement is actually very, very dangerous because it completely excludes all opposing viewpoints. It allows for no dissent on any level, no cross examination, no debate and absolutely no real fact checking.
Instead, the woke movement relies on complete and absolute compliance. If you are "woke" you are allowed 2 options and 2 options only. ONE, you keep quiet and never, ever speak up against ANYTHING that the woke movement does, no matter what. TWO, you scream and act out against anything or anyone who dares to criticize, cross examine or question anything "woke.'
The woke movement operates like a cult. One never questions anything. There is complete obedience and total submission to unspoken rules. And anyone who dares to speak up is to be attacked. I honestly don't think figures like Jim Jones, Adolph Hitler, Sun Myung Moon and others had this much control over this many people at any point in history.
Fahrenheit 451 here we come. The sequel? It's called "To The Chicago Abyss" by Ray Bradbury. It's a world where remembering old things is a crime. Remember oranges? Send the SWAT TEAM. An old man tells stories of his memories of the old world. It won't just be a crime to have a book, it will be a crime to remember such a thing as a book.
